DC Casineros is a world-renowned dance company that performs Cuban dance styles, including Rueda de Casino, Afro-Cuban Rumba, Cha Cha Chá, Mambo, Danzón, and Yoruba Orisha dance. DC Casineros has superb instructors that offer weekly Rueda de Casino classes at Dance Place in Northeast DC. DC Casineros’ co-directors, Amanda Gill and Adrian Valdivia, are available for private classes and professional duet performances at private events.
We have performed and taught at several venues locally, nationwide, and abroad, including twice as the opening act for GRAMMY award winning Los Van Van and the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club.
As a non-profit organization, our mission is to build healthy communities through the art and culture of Cuban dance. Rueda de Casino, the circle dance of partners dancing casino, has proven therapeutic benefits and increases levels of zest and empathy in participants.
Amanda Gill founded the dance company in the legendary DC nightclub Havana Village in 2005. Nine years later, DC Casineros has performed at over 300 venues in the DC Metropolitan area, as well as twenty international Salsa Congresses.
Along with dance performance and instruction, Amanda Gill, MA, R-DMT offers dance therapy services for organizations interested in using social dance for team building, to increase healthy relationships, and to reduce staff burnout. Amanda is bilingual (Spanish) and has been offering bilingual dance therapy services since 2009. This service can be tailored specifically for the needs of your population.
