Local Work: D.C., Maryland & Virginia

Cuban Dance in Our Home Region

DC Casineros brings performance, classes and cultural learning to the places where our neighbors gather. Since 2005, our work across D.C., Maryland and Virginia has connected theater stages and museum programs with schools, universities, festivals and the social dance floor.

We share Casino, Rueda de Casino, Son Cubano and Afro-Cuban dance through programs that invite people to watch, learn and take part. This is the local work that sustains our company and connects our artists with the region we call home.

Dance Place: Our Creative Home

Our resident-company relationship with Dance Place brings regular classes, rehearsals, Cuban dance socials, original productions and guest artists into one creative home in Northeast Washington. The teaching relationship began around 2006 and continues through our work with students, audiences and visiting Cuban artists.

Somos Cubanos brought DC Casineros and Compañía All Stars Santiago de Cuba together on March 6, 2015. The 2017 All Stars residency connected master classes with a collaborative production. Bailando con Juan Formell y Los Van Van, presented November 3–4, 2018, joined choreography, music, narration and documentary interviews.

Learn With Us Across the Region

Our teaching connects regular practice with performance and cultural understanding. At Dance Place, students can study Afro-Cuban dance, beginning Rueda de Casino and intermediate/advanced Casino partnerwork. Schools, universities and local organizations can arrange workshops, performances or programs that combine both.
