Two companies came together to celebrate Cuban popular dance on the Dance Place stage. Somos Cubanos was part of All Stars’ first U.S. visit, a performance and teaching exchange organized by DC Casineros and Dance Place.

Bailando con Formell y Los Van Van · Theater Archive

Amanda Gill and Adrian Valdivia developed the concept for the 2018 production together. Lilian Lombera captured interview footage, Jasmine McLaurin produced the video and Orielena Lopez narrated the story. Company artists and collaborators contributed individual and shared choreography, bringing Cuban musical history into the theater.

Our 2018 theater production connects Cuban dance with the history and music of Los Van Van. Watch “DC Casineros y Los Van Van Cut 1”, shared by Vincent S. Williams.
